Knights QRSS on Twitter.

Today there has been some activity on Twitter using the tag #qrss.

It makes it more "live/real time" where qrg's can be changed within minutes. Propegations can be analyzed and so on.

Testing.. having fun.. you know the same old drill (8

I have been looking at Spectran running under wine on a FreeBSD box, using baudline as a reference.

Still need to port glfer to FreeBSD, it seems to working, though with some quirks

Old Sealed Pb battery

I got the 12V 17Ah battery out of my storage, but it wouldn't take charge that well.

Well I got an 50R dummy load, it got used as load, then added another one in parallel.

Charge using a regular car battery charger, then when it was full decharging using this load.

I have lost count of how many times i've done that so far. Though it seems to take longer and longer to decharge every time.

Now i have added in parallel 2 100R and one 160R power resisters.

It seems to how the power very well now.

With this load the current should be between ½A and 1A, not the highest, need to dig around to see if i have more power resistors laying around.

mount -r -t cd9660 /dev/md0 /mnt/iso

mount /dev/da0a /mnt/USB-Stick

cp -RvL /mnt/iso/* /mnt/USB-Stick/

40m trx aka ozie

Well some time back i decided to work on making a totally homebrewed 40m trx. Well so far i'm almost done with the vxo and buffer.

I should really document the experiments. There has been made versrions of vxo and buffer.

One way to join in on building of this i by catching me on IRC on #hamradio on Undernet.

This project is also to try different approches. Homebrewing here we come.

Goodies, not lost just

Was visiting my mother the other day. I just had to look for some electronic parts. What i discovered was "new" AM variable air capacitors some with two and some with three.
They could be used for atu's maybe other antenna related projects.

Morse code practice this evening

Well could not get the swing of it this evening. Though i got most, far from all. But what i copied mostly showed i / s errors. the rest "EITNAMO" is fine

Morse code practice goes on

Just got my few minues of training in this morning:

I use these lectures: Le lezioni di Telegrafia di MARIO IK2YRT

I do copy more and more correct. Though I do NEED lots of more practice before being able to be let loose in CW mode.

Morse code practice is going slow

Well my intention started out great, though having a family of 5, where the youngest is little over a year, does not permit many time slots to practise.

Family first though then code practise.

Still trying to get loans for the new qth/house

We are still in the process of gettlng the loans into place.

TS-120S has been fixed (I hope)

After adding SB mods to it, it has become little better though still not usefull.

Then today I removed the top cover, loosened the screws holding the RF unit and the relay above it, then tightned them all again.

Next was alittle wiggling of all connectors in the ares of the relay board.

Now it seems to work without any problems in all bands and all modes (that it can)

Thanks to Eric, KM4ZL from the kenwoodts120_130 group at yahoo

In heinseit the RF unit board's screws was a tad bit loos. I exercised the band selecter when i was at it.

VLF antenna

18_1_khz

This my vlf antenna, yes it is a deguass coil from an old tv, an tl-074 as instrument amp and BPF ~400 Hz - ~100 KHz

Above is the instrument amplifier and BPF.

The thin black line is a demagnitising coil from an old TV, the picture is taking looking straight south

A picture of me

Here is a picture of me taking a picture with "my" Canon EOS400 with an 18-55 f/2.8 Tamron lens.

The vertical Al rod in the background is my current QRSs antenna for 10140075Hz.

TS-120S under the soldering iron

I have changed D2, D3, and D8 with BAS32L's. Though at low output in CW mode it is somewhat stable on 80M, less stable on 40M and giving full ouput on 20M after initial keydown (I'm using the tx/rx on the front). Looks like SB-844 is the next thing to do. Though D8 is there allready, I have to look at the diagram to see how to do it.

I have now added the two extra diodes.
Next is testing to see if there is any changes.

Modifications on my TS-120S

Changed D2, D3 and D8. Due to the problem of full carrier after initial modualtion in SSB mode or first key down in CW.

I didn't have the suggested replacement diodes, so i changed all 3 to BAS32L smd (Don't ask how).

Poweron and RX works. Next is to test TX.

To do this i need a bigger PSU and a dummy load.

The PSU i can borrow from a fellow ham.

Is tx'ing possible with a pic16f84?

After seeing my simple 30m mept tx get to I and G, I have been thinking about if it would be possible to tx wspr using the same xo and buffer as I have been using in mept.
For the time coordination, I have thought about using a now shelf project that I used years ago. A DCF77 digiclock, slightly modified. I added a level converter for rs-232 levels. I used it for a ntp project. It gives time signals with about ~25ms accuracy.
First thing is to find out how to generate the 4-FSK coded signal.

QRSs homebrewing

I'm tinkering with a "simple" so far it contains 4 BC547's

It is a mud of different designs.

The patterns generator has been made by Hans Summers.

The genneral idea was taken from a pixie2, thought the signal doesn't look to good.

A good lpf takes rather good care of that though.

The output RF level is about 40mW in 50 Ohm.

Bill Meara (n2cqr) hosts a great podcast, soldersmoke.

10.140 MHz QRSs beacon

Got samples from analog.com.brNow to put them into use:

1) get geda installed

2) check/find the schematic symbols

3) check/find the pcb footprint

4) draw the schematc

5) layout a pcb

6) ask a friend to make the pcb

7) go into soldersmoke ( is a podcast actually)

8) make program for a pic or simply control it with an USB to lpt converter

#1 is done, to #2 though symbols needs to be created.
